Dr. Jay Christensen is a Harlan, IA, native. He graduated from Harlan Community High School in 1980, and went on to further his education at the University of South Dakota and University of Iowa. In 1990 he received his Doctorate of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, IL. Dr. Christensen was awarded Iowa Optometrist of the Year in 2004. He is a member of the Iowa Optometric Association, American Optometric Association, and the Heart of America Contact Lens Society.

Dr. Jay's Family Eye Care opened in 1997. Dr. and his wife, Suzy, are the proud, and busy parents of Nicholas, A.J., Rees, Sadie, and Cass.

Ruth Rust has been with Dr. Jay's Family Eye Care since 2003. A Nebraska native, she attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney, and Iowa Western Community College. She is married to Travis Rust, has a daughter, Emilee, and is expecting another child in August. Her hobbies include scrapbooking, attending car races, and spending time with family and friends.

Nancy has been in the optometric field for 22 years (almost forever!). She has worked in all areas of eye care from frame selection and adjustments, contact lens training, pre-testing, and insurance. When not working, you can probably find her golfing with her husband, Alan. Spending time with her children and grandchildren also keep her busy.

Shelly is the newest employee at Dr. Jay's Family Eye Care. Tuesdays and Thursdays you can find her at the Logan practice. She and husband, Dusty, moved to rural Defiance from Council Bluffs and have three children.
